CUBE
High-end Inspection systems for cans and lids
- The CUBE – ibea’s latest all-integrated vision solution – was designed for a multitude of applications such as the production of metal packaging. The concept has been improved in all critical points. Based on feedback from our customers the CUBE is equipped with all necessary features to optimize the production process. Now correlations can easily be established to draw conclusions on the source of failures very quickly.
- The new system is easily accessible for maintenance purposes. The entire electronics assembly is located in the detachable CUBE (PC and PLC) and can therefore be replaced completely which reduces time for troubleshooting considerably. After that, the system is immediately operational again.
- The system is designed for high-performance production and is able to inspect up to 6000 parts/min. It also disposes of a multi-snap feature that enables you to take several pictures subsequently with different lightning. This feature increases the detection capabilities for small defects on difficult lacquers by up to 20%.
- The system is cooled passively making airconditioning redundant.
- Futhermore, the system disposes of a status indicator using an integrated LED strip.
- Innovative illumination is provided in RGBW, i.e. it can be configured in any colour – even in white – which allows a perfect adaptation to any kind of product, lacquer or customer requirement.
- The new generation of ibea’s image processing software preserves the particularly easy and logical operation offering all features of state-of-the art production technology at the same time.
- In particular we would like to mention the automatic function that sets illumination, centering and scans by one click without deeper knowledge of the settings, enabling the system to be ready for production immediately.
- The single-line inspection system CS is the perfect basic solution in the metal packaging sector. With it, we have been able to reduce the size of our compact optical inspection system CUBE even further.
- The new CS system thus only consists of the imager, rotary encoder, light barrier and an ejector. It is therefore particularly easy to integrate into existing production lines and requires only a very small mounting area.
- The system can inspect up to 800 parts per minute. The proven inspection software enables the inspection of round or square metal packaging with diameters of up to 190 mm and heights of max. 300 mm.
- The highlight is the automatic set-up, which allows complete adaptation for standard products (cans, lids, closures) with just one click.
- The CS system is extremely compact. All components such as lighting, camera and computer unit are permanently installed in the imager housing. An encoder-controlled Real Time System (RTS) regulates the timing for image acquisition, lighting and ejector.
- The scope of delivery includes basic software for standard metal packaging. Thanks to its network capability, the system can be configured and monitored via the Internet.
- The operating menu is self-explanatory, very clear and can be learned without training. Intelligent features such as the indicator browser for the subsequent inspection of defect images or the improved automatic mode prove ibea’s long-standing know-how in the development of quality assurance systems.
Deco Twister
The all-round inspection system for three-piece cans
- The TWISTER is ibea´s latest all-in-one solution and was developed for 360° inspection of metal packaging
- No compromises, with the most precise inspection and simple setup thanks to automatic mode, making the Deco Twister particularly user-friendly
- The all-round inspection is preceded by a classic internal inspection which detects the orientation of the can as well as errors based on the weld seam
- Inaccuracies that arise from arranging and combining individual images are avoided, as are disruptive reflections from the conveyor belt
- The rotation of the can allows the camera to be positioned at a 90° angle to the conveyor belt
- By eliminating the need to stich six different exposures into one image, new doses can be teached in in a very short time
- Various good cans are repeatedly moved through the system and taught in automatically
- Due to the exact alignment barcodes in the decor can also be scanned
- The CUBE Seam captures the images of the bottom or top can seam synchronously with four cameras. Each image is processed separately.
- Features:
– Single line seam inspection
– Operator unit (monitor, keyboard, mouse and hinged bracket)
– Part rate: 1500 cans per minute
– Monochrome cameras
– White high-power LED illumination
– Remote control via intranet or internet
– User-friendly software with indicator browser for intuitive error evaluation - Options:
– Top camera for inside inspection
– Motorlift for different can heights
LPT
Light tester for deep-drawn cans
- The inline leak detection for deep-drawn cans is carried out in a continuous process or clocked.
- A very precise timing enables the inspection of holes of less than 50µm.
- The LPT 7000 light leak tester has been developed as a module in order to be able to be integrated into all conceivable production lines as far as possible.
- The compact can inspection module can inspect the cans directly from the conveyor belt, but also in a clocked machine.
- NIO parts can be ejected directly from the side. The cans are guided directly over the camera and under the lighting.
- The cans are transported with the bottom up. The system enables a safe process through alarm signals in the event of a malfunction.
- The system has self-monitoring and a permanent status report, which is communicated to the operator via the monitor.
- One of the newest products in ibea’s portfolio is the Print Vision Master (PVM) for 100 % quality control of endless materials or sheets. The whole system is integrated into existing production lines (up to 6 m/sec.), the number of cameras depends on the required defect resolution.
- The PVM is capable of inspecting the following criteria:
– Color fidelity (R/G/B)
– Contrast
– Fitting displacements
– Missing decor
– Wrong decor
– Stains, scratches, blur - The greatest advantage of the PVM is the new inline-color-control. Because the system detects deviations before they are out of the specifications, the printing operator is able to interfere before faulty sheets will be printed. This way the system even contributes to a sustainable production.
COATING MASTER
Inline control of coated metal panels
- Our coating master system for the coating and edge inspection of metal panels enables you to optimize your coating line.
- It only includes monitoring the edges for cleanliness, correct positions and size. The coating master is installed directly behind the coating unit above the conveyor belt. The housing is securely sealed due to the risk of explosion in such ambient conditions.
- While production is running, the panels are continuously scanned and defective panels are sorted out.
- The following errors are detected:
– margin size
– passer offset
– edge contamination
– coating defects such as flaws in the paint, dirt or pores
- The basic function of the vacuum/pressure inspection system (VPMS) is to apply positive or negative pressure to a product. Depending on the product size and cycle time, a wide variety of leaks can be detected.
- After applying vacuum or pressure, a first measurement is carried out using a pressure sensor, followed by a waiting time to be specified within the production cycle and subsequent second measurement.
- Leaks can be determined from the difference between these two measurements and defective products can be rejected.
- The mechanical stress during the test process is low thanks to the proven vacuum technology and guarantees a long service life and freedom from maintenance of all components.
- The design of the system as a linear or rotary machine, the measuring principle and the number of test stations per system depend on the cycle speed of the production line.
- Our systems can be set up for cycle rates up to 1.600 parts per minute – the most common area of application is between 100 and 800 parts per minute.
CAP MASTER
Offline control for sealing caps
- The Cap Master is a measuring system for the measurement of TO caps and PT caps of 32-110 mm diameter.
- The caps need to be fed to the Cap Master or they can be taken by the optional self-sampling module on a predefined point directly from the production line.
- In case of the self-sampling system the caps will run as a group into a pre-buffer station and are held in one line to make sure that caps of all toolings are inside the buffer zone.
- From the pre-buffering zone the product enters the first module, the flip test module.
- In the flip test module the caps will be tested for the safety button flip (flip in and flip out).
- The second module is the visual test module.
- In the visual test module the caps are tested for compound depth, button dip, curl thickness, curl height, lug height, lug shape. After all measurements are made the Cap Master drop the caps in the IO or NIO container.
- The system is able to inspect up to 600 caps per hour. The system is operated like any ibea vision system. So there is no need for timetaking training.
FLIP TESTER
Offline measuring system for caps
- The intuitive table-top device measures the vacuum values of the “flip-in and flip-out” caps and thus documents the quality of your production.
- With the help of the appropriate adapter, a wide variety of diameters can be examined. After a definable vacuum has been established, the minimum and the maximum values of the measurements are saved in a database.
- Flip-in, flip-out and tolerance values can be set for each cap type. The menu is clearly structured and can be operated via a touch screen.
- All stored measured values are graphically processed and can be called up sorted by date. A standard Ethernet output enables data to be passed on to external systems.

HC500
Height measurement system for concrete blocks
- The HC 500 is installed directly behind the stone paver above the board transport. The concrete blocks passing under the device are scanned contact-free with up to 3 lasers and measured in height with an accuracy of +/- 0.2 mm.
- The measuring range of the stone height is up to 500 mm. The measurement takes place in each case via the board reference, which is given by the gaps between the stones. Fluctuations caused by uneven boards are compensated and the measurement result is the actual stone height.
- Depending on the setting, up to 5000 measurements can be recorded per board or row of stones. The results can be called up as a trend in the mean and as a mini- and maxima display. In addition, the course can be shown across the width of the palette.
- All in all 6 displays are possible at the same time, which are output in the indicator browser format. The display of the measured values also includes the previously set limits and the exceeding or falling below them.
CSIS
Inline clay strands inspection
- Inspection system for checking clay strands in the brick and tile industry.
- The clay strands steadily exiting the extruder generally has a smooth surface. Depending on what surface effects are required, in the next step the strands can be further processed, e.g. peeled, scarred, sanded, etc. Then, the ibea inspection system uses three colour matrix cameras to inspect the strands and detect any defects. Only then is the continuous strands cut into the required green products. If defects are detected, the rejected clay can be recirculated, and losses minimized.
- The CSIS inspection system uses three ultrafast colour matrix cameras to inspect the clay strands from three sides. Alternatively, a fourth camera can be added to monitor the strands from below. With this system, deviations can be detected, monitored and immediately displayed to the plant operative.
- The system can stop the cutting process and prevent any unsatisfactorily extruded material going on to the downstream production process. This saves material and ensures that production can continue running without stoppages.
- The system can be trained automatically with different product sizes and surfaces.
BBIS
Inline clay block inspection
- The system works with 3 high-resolution colour matrix cameras and 2 correspondingly resolving 3D cameras from the side to check all technically relevant sides (except the support side of the conveyor belt) of block bricks.
- BBIS is therefore ideally suited for checking the brick quality, especially the grinding dimension. The intuitive operation via teach-in makes for very simple set-up. The system is therefore suitable for a permanent 100% inspection of all products and is very flexible for product changeovers.
- The evaluation is fully automatic and offers full statistics with a detailed error statement (classifier).
- In connection with our Checkweight you can therefore monitor the volume and thus the density of your products.
- A corresponding ejector sorts out defective products.
